One sport is not enough for Tik Maynard, that’s why this Vancouverite competes in Modern Pentathlon. Pentathlon consists of running, swimming, pistol shooting, fencing, and equestrian showjumping – and it’s all done in one day. Tik believes “Pentathlon trains the body to go beyond what I thought was possible. But what’s even more important in my sport is teaching the mind to remain calm, relaxed and focused”. This balance between the mind and the body is what Tik has been working on this year in his quest to qualify for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.
Tik is on the Canadian National Team and has competed on the international circuit for four years. This year Lululemon will follow his progress as he competes across the world. Tik’s goal is to have a podium finish at the Pan-American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this July, which will hopefully earn him a spot on the Olympic Team
Horseback riding was Tiks introduction into Modern Pentathlon, and it remains one of his passions. Tik is an Equine Canada certified instructor, and when he is not training he enjoys passing on his knowledge to others. He teaches at Southlands Riding Club in Vancouver and has a number of successful students.
Tik’s philosophy on sport reflects his philosophy on life: “I always want to give 100%, and I always want to be improving. But to be truly successful you have to maintain a careful equilibrium in your life. Your body and mind need rest if you are going to maximize their performance”.

Friends are more important than money.
