Katherine Moore

Bikram Yoga, Vancouver Falcons

Katherine Moore is a full time yoga instructor who has taught in Florida and Vancouver since fall 2002. Katherine will tell you that yoga has changed her life; through it she has found great love, peace, confidence, and patience within herself. Yoga has as well enhanced every step of her running career. It has helped her stay mentally focused, calm and injury free during racing season. Practicing yoga gives her the confidence to push herself every year to set and achieve personal goals in her races.

After actively practicing Bikram Yoga at her home studio in Vancouver, in fall 2002 she attended the 9 week Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in Las Angeles. Katherine then traveled to Florida where she taught at Stephanie Katherine's beautiful Bikram Studio in Delray Beach. During this time she started to train and compete in distance running which has become her passion. Katherine returned to Vancouver May 2006 and since her return she has been training with the Vancouver Falcons who are coached by John Hill. She ran the Victoria marathon Fall 2006 placing 4th Female Overall and Chicago marathon fall 2007 placing 28th, 1st Canadian Female. Katherine was hoping to break 3 hours in the Chicago marathon however conditions were unexpectedly hot. Conditions were so bad organizers took a health and safety decision to abandon the race with competitors collapsing and having to be rushed to hospitals in what was a freaky "windy city" heat wave. Katherine adapted her race strategy for unexpected hot weather and humidity she was pleased to finish the race with a 28th female placing and 2 minute personal best in such tough conditions.
In 2008, she has achieved personal bests in all her races. Katherine ran the first half marathon in February knocking over 2 minutes off her personal best, placing 8th overall and second in her age group. She has also ran an 8 km and 5 km race this year taking over a minute off her personal best in each race.
Her immediate goals for this year are to improve her previous personal bests in the Sun Run by one minute, place top 5 female in the Vancouver Half Marathon and run under three hours in the Ottawa marathon.

Katherine is proud to speak how yoga is such a beautiful balance for runners, it helps to balance flexibility with strength, and recondition thought patterns. When workout, yoga class, or life gets tough and challenging yoga teaches that this to shall pass.

Despite her love for Bikram Yoga Katherine was thirsty to expand her yoga repertoire and began practicing Power Vinyasa at Yaletown Yoga. In 2007 she was then inspired to take Baron Baptiste's Level 1 and Level 2 Teacher Training. This training not only taught the fundamentals of Power Vinyasa but also helped to teach from a more authentic place. Katherine's love for yoga is expressed in her enthusiastic and energetic classes. She feels so lucky to live and teach in Vancouver where there are so many beautiful studios and inspiring Yoga instructors.

Katherine's future goals are to open her own Yoga studio in Vancouver with her sister Erin Moore , who is also a renowned yoga teacher in Vancouver.
She also plans to attend Lornah Kiplogat's High Altitude Training Camp in Kenya next spring. To contact Katherine for private yoga lesson e-mailchiyoga.kat@gmail.com.
