Yoga Bowl

Ever since I was young I’ve always been driven to do something that involves movement. I did ballet for 8 years as a child, then moved onto competitive softball and volleyball. My career in fitness started at Chase Fitness Centre (Chatswood) in the early 80’s– a pretty scary & funny time in hindsight. In amongst all that lycra & legwarmers, the very young fitness industry’s growth was initially trial and error – mostly based on how people looked and how much an exercise hurt. It was when instructing developed into a skill, and exercise began to evolve as a science that it all started making sense for me. My fitness industry career evolved into training new generation instructors, presenting at fitness conventions nationally and internationally, and teaching fitness classes... Read the profile >>

Roslyn Stutchbury

Body by Design

I came to yoga quite by accident. I grew up in country Australia and did everything in my power to avoid sport, opting instead to stay in the art room. Sport terrified me, I couldn’t even swim and even worse, I had no self-esteem. Those obstacles led me to explore beauty therapy as a way to feel better inside by changing what I saw outside. Arriving in Sydney at age 21, I took my first dance class which completely exposed my inflexibility and lack of coordination. The teacher was so appalled at my lack of body awareness that he demanded I go to a yoga class. I couldn’t even reach my ankles in a forward-fold but that first class hooked me. I loved how the poses felt in my body and the meditation connected me to a sense of peace, stillness and freedom. It showed me the beauty... Read the profile >>
