Emily has a strong sense of body awareness from years of competitive sport in Netball and Athletics as well as a volunteer Surf Life Saver for 7 years and training in the Martial Arts of Capoeria. Initially, it was the physical aspect of Yoga that captured her attention, After a long day in the office, she found great pleasure in stretching out the body and moving into challenging positions. However, it was the calmness and clarity experienced in the mind at the end of class which sparked her interest to delve deeper into the teaching of Yoga.
Emily commenced her studies in 2009 at Yoga Synergy with Bianca Machliss and Simon Borg Olivier, both physiotherapists and senior yoga teachers. Under their apprenticeship program she attained 500 hr yoga teaching certificate in 2009. She went on to study Anatomy and Physiology at the University of Sydney in 2010 as well as completing Yoga Synergy's 36 hr Applied Anatomy and Physiology of Yoga course in 2009 and again in 2011. She has been teaching Yoga full time at Yoga Synergy since 2010 and is blessed to have travelled overseas to run classes and workshops in Bali, India and Vietnam.
In 2012, she took a six month sabbatical and spent the time exploring the roots of this Ancient practice in India. She studied at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram and gained an insight into the classical approach, as well as the application of Yoga as a healing modality. On returning to Sydney, she commenced further studies into the field of Yoga Therapy and continues to explore the powerful healing benefits that posture, the breath and meditation has on the body/mind complex.
