Tia Platte

ERYT-500 Vinyasa Flow Instructor

Tia Platte has been teaching Vinyasa Flow yoga for fourteen years and a humble student of yoga for over sixteen. She currently resides in Richmond, VA where she has been the Co-Director of Yoga Source since 2007. A native Virginian, Tia was born with a passion for movement and creative expression. At the early age of three, she was introduced into the world of dance and performance with Eva May Morris. Music and Costume Design came later as a student of the Governor's School for the Arts, where she studied many forms of dance, learned classical violin and string bass, and explored costume design and creation.

Tia was trained by many phenomenal dance teachers and was introduced to Hatha Yoga by Ana Gerard at age 15. She later moved to Richmond, VA to study Dance and Choreography at Virginia Commonwealth University in 1995, where she continued to lay the groundwork for deepening her studies in yoga at Yoga Source, alongside her professional studies of dance.

She has studied with many world-renowned yoga teachers from the East to West Coast. Living in California for a brief stint exposed Tia to some of the most influential yoga teachers today, such as Annie Carpenter, Nicki Doane, the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Mary Paffard, Shiva Rea, Richard Rosen and Rodney Yee. Tia has deepened her studies through a variety of Teacher Training programs at Omega Institute in New York, Piedmont Yoga in Oakland, California, Yoga Mendocino in Ukiah, California and YogaWorks (Yoga Source) in Richmond, Virginia.

Tia has presented a wide variety of continuing education workshops at Yoga Source. She is the Teacher Training Director for the YogaWorks 200 and 300hr training programs at Yoga Source. Tia has also assisted in past 200hr trainings, mentored 300hr teacher trainees and presented in the 300hr YogaWorks Professional Program.

She is known for her dynamic and inspirational style of teaching that incorporates both the physical and spiritual aspects of the yoga practice. Her daily classes integrate vigorous, vinyasa flow asana with the application of precise alignment, meditation, visualization, intention and prayer to create an inner journey towards healing and a greater acceptance of the true Self. She shares inspirational readings from the Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga Sutras, the Tao Te Ching, and various Buddhist literatures.

With dance, music and yoga as her three main ingredients to a healthy and joyful life, Tia continues to seek the most out of each, in no particular order at all!
