Maria began practicing Bikram Yoga in December 2006 during her senior year at Ithaca College. She had just started training for the Boston Marathon, so she figured adding some yoga into her running routine would help stretch her out and keep her injury-free. She had no idea what she was in for! The heat, the postures, the SWEAT (“how am I sweating this much?!” was all she could think!) was incredibly intense.
She left her first class wondering what she had just experienced, and although the 90 minutes was incredibly challenging, she found herself wanting to go back the next day. Over the next four months, she practiced Bikram Yoga about five times per week and remained healthy throughout the entire marathon training. Not only was she feeling great physically, but her mental state was far more relaxed and calm.
After college graduation, she moved home to Massachusetts and found herself rearranging her day in order to get to yoga. It suddenly dawned on her that she could actually make this her career. It did not take more than two seconds for her to decide to attend Teacher Training, and in April 2008 she began her nine-week journey to become a Bikram Yoga teacher. She has been teaching Bikram Yoga since June 2008 and she is so happy to now have Bikram Yoga in Natick – her home town! She encourages anyone and everyone to try this yoga and start feeling great.
