Velcia has always had a continual commitment to being physical which started in her preteen years. Sticking true to what she believed in, she followed a path that led her to fitness. She started her personal training venture at the YMCA where she volunteered and later worked on staff. She fell in love with the community concept and the energy derived from being part of a group. She branched out and worked at the DDO Civic Center and the YM-YWHA for many years while establishing her own business, West Island Pilates, and pursuing channels by which to increase her knowledge.
As a personal trainer for 19 years, Velcia has now gained the experience to understand that setting up the right environments where clients can engage in activities as well as uncover and amplify their feelings of mastery, confidence, competence and enjoyment are effective ways of increasing their motivation. Becoming fit is a long-term commitment because it not only involves the body as we would think, but also the mind and soul. Achieving small goals along the way make the journey obtainable.
Velcia firmly believes that weight loss is not a goal, but the result of a lifestyle change.
