Asuka was born in Tokyo, Japan and then raised in Okinawa until the age of 12, when she moved to the US. She was introduced to Latin Dance when she was working in a Bolivian restaurant in Manassas, Va. Her friends from the restaurant took her to a Latin Club for the first time and she was blown away. She knew she had to learn more, so she kept going and with the help of her girlfriends who made it fun, she quickly picked up the dances. She started teaching Zumba and learned even more as she taught the classes – despite not being able to do half the moves when she started.
Within a year of teaching Zumba, Asuka became a Zumba Master Trainer certifying local instructors and co-starring in the Zumba DVDs. After a few years in this role, she realized that students wanted a more intense workout and more international mix of song and dance. This is when she created Kazaxe. Now she and her classes (sometimes 150 people strong) kick it to a full hour of high energy dancing to the hot beats of Dancehall, Soca, Reggae, Hip Hop, Axe-Funk, Samba and more! She likes to say it is pure party and super energy!
