Sharing her gentle warmth and contagious sense of humor, Peggy has been leading her students towards wellbeing, health and balance through yoga since 2000. Though to hear her tell it – her introduction to yoga was reluctant at best.
“It took me the longest time to try yoga. You see, I had this vision of people that do yoga as some elitist group of enlightened ones who would never welcome me and all my unbridled energy, along with a few bad habits, as well! Plus, I figured all you did in a yoga class was sit in a twisted position with your thumb and forefinger pressed together and hum aloud. Oh, and a naptime at the end!
It was about 10 years ago. I was the director of counseling for a school system, working on a doctorate, raising two children solo, and squeezing in kickboxing classes four times a week. Sleeping and eating were luxuries afforded sparingly. At the urging of a friend, who probably knew I was a train wreck waiting to happen, I went to my very first class.
And I’m now here to tell you that yoga completely destroyed life as I knew.”
And thank dharma for that!
Peggy ended up trading her Ph.D. for an E-RYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) and instead of helping others merely cope with problems – she is leading others to live their life of true potential! Peggy regularly leads workshops and retreats, and works with a select group of private clients that study with her regularly. Look for her locally either on her mat or leading a class at Down Dog Yoga, Baptiste Affiliate Studios located in Virginia and D.C.
And when not on her mat, Peggy (her husband and two children close at hand) can be found on a surf board in Maui - learning to fall off gracefully and get back up; or suspended 500 feet in the air on a zip line over a Costa Rican jungle - conquering her fear of heights; or searching for the perfect cast, fly fishing in the wilder places of Montana. Sometimes, you can even catch her napping!
Oh yeah, she was also a Time Magazine’s Person of the year in 2006.
