creating community legacies

Community Legacies is lululemon athletica's department of corporate social responsibility (CSR). We chose to define our CSR department in these words because, well, we're not your typically corporate company. Our vision is that through personal responsibility, we change the world by changing how the world does business.

We encourage our employees to be responsible for their individual actions so that during their time with lululemon and beyond, doing the right thing is an automatic reaction. This philosophy is part of our DNA and why our employees and even business partners passionately share in our vision.

the programs

We create our community legacies in two ways: through grassroots actions and company actions.

Grassroots actions

Where? In our global stores.
How? By individuals taking personal responsibility to create change in their communities.

Company actions

Where? In our Vancouver Store Support Centre.
How? Through Our Focus on waste and Our Factories partnership programs.

the people

The Advocates make it all happen. They inspire grassroots actions in the stores and are leaders in achieving lululemon's initiatives. There are over 100 people from our support centre departments and each of our stores that drive this team. They are passionate about having 'doing the right thing' as part of their day-to-day decision making and are leading the charge in creating our community legacies.

the communication

As we grow, we have over 2,600 employees making choices relevant to their communities and to their personal and professional legacies. The Making Choices video series will illustrate many of these stories - check out our most recent story above! Beginning in summer of 2009, lululemon.com will also share many of the metrics for how we are reducing our environmental impact in the six largest waste streams of our supply chain.
