It was love at first Savasana…
My initial experience in this meditative resting pose at age 11 set into motion my personal journey to discover the peace that exists in a state beyond dream, sleep, and waking. An Orange County native and yoga practitioner for over a decade and a half, I have been fortunate to study with many yoga masters. I was part of the second graduating 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training course ever offered in Orange County at Yoga Place (now Yoga Works) under renowned Iyengar yogini Karin O’Bannon. In 2004, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Chapman University where I founded the school's first Yoga Club in addition to my studies in religion, philosophy, psychology, and sociology. I have since completed 35 units of post-baccalaureate study in anatomy, physiology, chemistry, physics, and biology to further my understanding of the human body.
In 2008, National Yoga Institute offered me a position designing curriculum as well as leading their first 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training course in Orange County. The opportunity to educate students in anatomy, movement, philosophy, and ethics was a perfect way to marry my love of science with my interest in spirituality.
Seeing that yoga training was becoming a corporate enterprise, in which authenticity and individualized attention were traded for more students and more profit, I founded True Flow Yoga (Registered Yoga School) in 2009 to offer people a more intimate and fulfilling journey into yoga. January 2011 will mark the beginning of the school’s sixth 200hr Yoga Teacher Training.
Since 2008, I have organized and led yoga retreats in Costa Rica, Mexico, Santa Barbara, and Hawaii. I currently teach weekly TrueFLOWYoga™ classes at The Sports Club/LA, Equinox Fitness Club, and Yoga Shakti. TrueFLOWYoga™ is my own eclectic style of yoga that encourages students to look inward to discover their Truth. Drawing on a broad base of wisdom from varying yogic traditions, I explore new topics and methods regularly with the goal of de-mystifying the practice of yoga and exposing practitioners to its multitude of layers. My thoughtfully sequenced flows synchronize breath with movement, giving equal attention to both strengthening and stretching to create a balanced body. Classes are characterized by anatomical precision, philosophical eloquence and spiritual curiosity. Guided into ease, practitioners easily challenge their boundaries and leave with a renewed feeling of invigoration and awareness. As a yoga instructor, I feel that my role is to inspire students to draw forth the inherent gifts that they already possess. It is a true honor and blessing to be doing what I love as my full-time job.
