Health & fitness have always been a priority in my life. I've been fortunate to have been extremely active from a young age. From about 4th grade on, I was always involved in dance, drill team or cheerleading. I have had a love for hitting the gym & running since 11th grade or so and over the years, I have ran in nearly every local 5 & 10K fun run, loving the camaraderie & energy of the crowd & have even talked my nieces into running several 5ks with me.
Though I have had a passion for running for years, distance running is relatively new to me. Over the past few years, the exposure to so many talented, athletic people via my run club, inspired me to challenge myself more in 2011. It began with the Texas Independence Relay, a 203 mile relay race with a team of 12. From there, I ran 4 half marathons in 2011. Marine Corps Historic Half in Fredricksburg, VA, Nike Women's Half in San Fran, Rock n' Roll half in San Antonio and La Porte by the Bay Half in La Porte, TX. I ran the Tough Mudder in Jan 2012, a 13 mile British military style obstacle course and then in April 2012, I was in back van for the Texas Independence Relay. In October of 2012, I ran my first full marathon after years of saying "it wasn't for me" & yet, I have found a new love for distance running and looking forward to my next marathon!
My passion for running & fitness has carried me through many obstacles in life & spreading that passion has become a goal for me. In April of 2012, I became a certified personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and have since started the Flashmob Bootcamp with Shelia Townsend. As of July 2012, I assist in managing a new run club, the West End Running Club. I feel so fortunate to be involved with this run club, not only because I get to run, hold fundraisers and meet so many amazing people, but because I know in my heart just how much one can grow from becoming part of such a group.
I am surrounded by people who make me realize daily that I am capable of achieving so much more both physically & mentally. This blessing has motivated me even more to not only challenge myself, but to motivate others to take on a life fueled by fitness & health. I am honored to be an ambassador for Lululemon, as I know that they truly share the passion that I have to spread health, fitness & fun!
