Melanie graduated in 2007 with a BFA from North Carolina School of the Arts. She began her pre-professional training at Halifax Dance before continuing in the training program of the School of Toronto Dance Theatre. She has received additional training at the Alberta Ballet, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, David Parsons, Danny Grossman and the Canadian Children’s Dance Theatre. Performance highlights include works by Terri and Oliver Steel, Brenda Daniels, Susan and Rick McCullough, Julia Sasso, Danny Grossman, Marc Boivin, Sharon Moore, Howard Richard, Ros Newman and Sean Sullivan. This year Melanie has been asked to perform the lead roll, Clara, in Halifax’s’ The Nutcracker; a co-performance by Symphony Nova Scotia, Halifax Dance and Mermaid Theatre. In 2006 Melanie returned home to join the contemporary dance company, Mocean Dance in 2006 as a Dancer Intern and is now a full-time company member. She continues to tour and teach master classes as a member of Halifax’s contemporary dance “company to watch”, Mocean, while still teaching regular classes to the communities pre-professional dancers at three separate dance schools.
