GoodLife Fitness

As a child Janice was always interested in dance and fitness. During her first year at Dalhousie University Janice decided to explore the opportunities within Fitness instruction at Dalhousie's Sport and Recreation Facility, Dalplex. At this particular time there were no courses available so Janice found herself at The Halifax YMCA where she enrolled in the Fitness Instructor Specialist Course. This was the first step in a lifestyle that would promote physical fitness for many years.

Janice spent her initial years teaching at the Halifax YMCA. During this time she received certifications in Aqua Fitness, Pre and Post Natal Fitness , Older Adult Fitness and Muscle and Strength Conditioning. Janice would often teach up to 12 classes per week and loved it so much that she made the decision to stay in the industry for the long haul. Over the next 5 years Janice branched off to other Fitness clubs in Halifax such as Dalplex, The Tower, Mount Saint Vincent University and Hospital based programs throughout. She also joined the professional Cheerleading Dance Team with The Halifax Windjammer Basketball Team and would often be asked to participate in locally shot television commercials for the promotion of fitness related events.

Eventually Janice's love of fitness soon branched off into other disciplines such as running and health and sports related charity events. Janice was a fan of the work the Abilities Foundation of Nova Scotia did for the disabled and became a participant and volunteer for the Labatt's 24 Hour Relay Race held each year at St. Mary's University. Participating in other large fitness events such as the Nova Scotia Rum Runners Race in Lunenburg, The Cape Breton Relay Race in Cape Breton, The Halifax Natal Day Road Race and several city based 5 k runs became a yearly commitment that Janice felt very passionate about.

In the year 2000, Janice decided to start a family and took some time away from the intense schedule of teaching so many classes. Soon after however, Janice found she missed the gym and decided to add step aerobics to her list of abilities.. This became the staple of Janice's fitness program for several years after and in 2006 Janice was asked to present a Master Step class for local instructors at Fitness Friendzy, a Halifax based Fitness workshop. In 2006 Janice was asked to teach Group Exercise at GoodLife Fitness Club in Halifax where she continues to work today. Janice is certified to teach Les Mills International programs: Bodystep, Bodyjam, Bodyflow and Bodypump.

In the 20 years that Janice has been involved in the fitness Industry, she has always been connected to her participants. According to Janice "The best part of being a Fitness Instructor is knowing that you play a part in the health and well being of a persons life." I cannot imagine my life without fitness and I feel honored to have been able to have an affect on so many people's lives.
