Chelsea is a certified yoga instructor and teaches yoga at Kashi Atlanta Urban Ashram. Chelsea’s work in the community is inspired by the meaning of her spiritual name Jaya, meaning victory and Dasi, meaning service. Chelsea is strongly influenced by the teachings of her beloved teachers Swami Jaya Devi and Ma Jaya.
Chelsea loves teaching children and implements yoga every day with her third graders at The Neighborhood Charter School in Grant Park. Chelsea is a trained Yoga Ed instructor and is passionate about the benefits of yoga, especially for young adults and children. Chelsea was a part of a two- year grant at Spelman College funded by the Diabetes Association and the Center for Disease Control where she taught yoga and African Dance to college freshmen diagnosed with diabetes.
Chelsea loves spreading yoga throughout the community and has taught yoga to children and young adults at The Childrens School, Capitol Area Mosaic, The Sullivan Center, Spelman College, Clayton State University, Cabbagetown Community Center, and The Neighborhood Charter School. Recently, Chelsea taught yoga to over one hundred women at the “My Black is Beautiful” Tour sponsored by Proctor & Gamble and Essence Magazine.
Chelsea has practiced yoga for over eight years and loves the continuous transformation of her body, mind and spirit. Chelsea conducts workshops for teachers through Yoga Ed. and volunteers with Kashi’s Street Meals Program throughout the year. Chelsea is a member of the Heritage Drummers and Dancers and has performed across the United States. The African Dance Company teaches class in Grant Park and will be traveling to Nigeria in 2009 to perform.
Chelsea is a graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta, GA and Teachers College, Columbia University in New York, NY. Chelsea serves children by living by the teachings of Neem Karoli Baba, “feed everybody, meaning not only physical food, but direct and unconditional love.” Chelsea’s “work of heart” is inspired by her family, friends, and all who serve others and honor their passion in life.
