Jessica started teaching in 1995 after graduating from Smith College. With a degree in History and Latin American Studies, Jessica entered a Masters in Teaching for Secondary Education with a focus in History and Language Arts at Lewis and Clark College in 1996. While in Graduate school, Jessica taught horseback riding at the Lake Oswego Hunt Club to ages 8 to 75. She had grown up riding and training horses since the age of five, and rode competitively from age 12 through college, distinguishing her competitive riding career by finishing in 5th place in Zone finals. After sustaining an injury to her sacrum while riding, Jessica started practicing Yoga to heal her injury and stay in shape. In 1999, Jessica completed a three-month intensive Yoga certification in Los Angeles with Bikram Choudhury. She opened a Yoga studio in 1999 and started her studies in Pilates the same year. After completing more than 600 hours of study with the Pilates Guild and Romana Kryzanowska, Jessica started teaching Pilates in 2001 in a small studio within the Yoga studio. In early 2003, Jessica sold her Yoga studio and moved the Pilates studio to SE Belmont. She has studied with Power Pilates, Peak Pilates and Gyrotonic. She continues to study and learn from different modalities and forms of movement and has recently obtained her certification in Gyrotonic. Jessica's aim is to never allow Pilates or movement to get stuck in a pattern for any student. It is important to constantly keep the body and mind interested so the person can grow and the body can evolve.
