care instructions
We want you to treat your clothes with the same tough love that you give your workouts. Here are some tips to get the longest life out of your garment:
general care
- warm wash/warm dry: if you're rushing off to your class, machine wash your garments on warm and warm to dry
- best practice: if you're looking to protect the life of the LYCRA® and the shape of your garment, machine wash on cold and hang to dry
- preshrunk: we preshrink our fabrics before sewing them into garments so there are no surprises when you take them home and wash them
- when in doubt: check the tag of your garment for specific washing instructions (if it says, "DO NOT DRY CLEAN", there's probably a good reason for it)
taking care of bright colours
Keep it light and bright. To care for your bright coloured gear, we suggest that you:
- wash bright colours alone in cold water, before you wear them
- continue washing bright coloured gear with similar colours
- when wet, keep bright colours away from other fabrics
other tips to extend your garments life
- like with like: wash your luon with other synthetic fabrics (e.g., Luxtreme, nylon, etc.) and avoid anything abrasive, such as denim or garments with zippers. These can be harmful, especially in a repetitive motion like in a washer and dryer
- avoid cotton towels: wash your luon separate from your hoodies and towels. We know that cotton fluff (especially from towels) gets as attached to luon as we are
- luon and fabric softener don't mix: avoid using fabric softener because it coats the technical fabric and inhibits its wicking capabilities
how to wash your different fabrics
- luon, Swift and Silverescent families
- warm wash / warm dry; like with like
- natural blend family
- warm wash / warm dry; like with like
- exceptions: Merino Wool, Boolux and Cashlux - cold wash / hang or cool tumble dry
- outerwear family
- warm or cold wash / hang to dry
- limit your soap: use the least amount of soap possible to clean it effectively (leftover soap may inhibit the water repellency)
- dryer recharge: if you notice the shoulders and cuffs (high saturation areas) are not repelling water anymore, try popping the garment in the dryer. Twenty minutes will do wonders to recharge the Durable Water-Repellent finish
frequently asked questions
Q.
how do I wash my Scuba Hoodie?
A.
for washing our cotton fleece Scuba Hoodies, we recommend putting it them in a cold wash with your other cottons and either hanging them to dry or putting them on low heat in the dryer
Q.
eek! I used fabric softener with my luon, is it ruined?
A.
no. The fabric softener clogs the pores of the technical fabrics, so it makes the fabric not wick away sweat as well. Wash your items again (without the fabric softener) and they should return to their normal wicking level as the softener is washed away
Q.
how do I wash my lululemon bag?
A.
we recommend spot cleaning your bag with a cloth, a little detergent and water
Q.
how do I wash my headband?
A.
our headbands can be washed like our other technical garments (washing is especially important for slipless headbands whose 'sliplessness' can be affected by hair oils). We'd suggest putting them into a delicates bag so they don't get caught on anything. Cold water and hang to dry is best
Q.
do I need to take the cups out of my sports bra to wash it?
A.
we find that removing cups when washing our sports bras helps them to keep their shape. To wash the cups, hand-wash them in cool or warm water and lay them flat to dry
