If you ask Jamie Atlas what he loves doing best, he'll say 'stealing'. Of course, he's from Australia, which we all know is inhabited by descendants of convicts, so that's no surprise. What is surprising is that he means it. It's actually something he attributes to his success as a trainer, fitness studio owner and as a person."I steal", says Jamie "the best ideas from the best people - I've spent a good part of my career working close to the industry leaders in different theories of movement, from practical to theoretical to experimental. From hands on to hands off, there are so many different ways to approach a human being trying to blend different ideas from different modalities, so that when someone walks in that needs a certain workout or muscle release or change in the way they move, I can pull the most appropriate of my stolen 'tools' out of my 'toolbox' and see how it fits". Sometimes Jamie combines tools from different movement disciplines for specific clients. Which makes him an alchemist of sorts. A stealing, funny-talking alchemist.
While he prefers the title of 'personal trainer', over 'thieving sorcerer' it sits uneasily with him, as he likes to think he combines the different tools and training techniques he's acquired over the years with his first degree in neuroscience (he wanted to be a sports psychologist before he realized his true calling). His athletic background had him playing professional basketball and even attending a tryout for the australian volleyball team... Before he decided it was time to grow up and get a real job. But real jobs weren't hiring at that time so he did work with real people instead, trying to help them achieve a new level of health and fitness. That was back in 1991, and he's been loving it ever since. Nowadays he trains 1-1, moonlights as the Rallyman for local non-profit Livewell Colorado and writes for his blog www.jamieatlas.com. Not to be content with just training people himself, Jamie atlas is the creator of Denvers only small group personal training studio, Bonza Bodies Fitness (www.bonzabodies.com). Classes reflect jamies fun and judgment free attitude and all levels of fitness are welcome. Jamie is proud to be an ambassador and hopes to spread one message to all he touches: You are more than a number on a scale. You are more than the sum of others judgment of you. You are more than what you realize you can be. And when you focus on what you can control - what you think with your mind, what you feed your system and what you do with your body.... Then you can start your journey with confidence, with certainty and with control. You may not know it, but you have your hands on the wheel of your own destiny.
So start driving.
