Just finished day 30 of a 40 day challenge doing 1 and a half hours of hot power yoga daily. I am also a 2 nd grade teacher, mother and wife. There are 3 fellow yogis also on this journey from my studio and our instructors have announced which day we're on, which has generated amazing support. I hit a wall last night and simply cried in savasana in-between poses I was able to do. My body just told me No and I had to listen. I think the release of crying was necessary due to utter exhaustion. The classes have been intense and I've been going hard, so I took the day off of work and laid in bed. Eating enough protein and fueling the workouts has been a challenge, since I'm also doing a 40 day detox cleanse. This journey has already changed my life and my practice forever. I am so inspired by the outpour of positive support from my teachers and fellow yogis and I am so thankful that my family and friends have graciously allowed me the daily time I've been away to accomplished this goal. Yoga is life.

Hi Jane!
Head into your local store to see what challenges the educators are doing, or if they can recommend studios in the area that are offering 30 or 40 day challenges. Find your local store with our store finder here: http://www.lululemon.com/stores/

Just started a 30 day Bikram challenge (ends on New Years Eve). 90 mins. of staying with my breath, very tough, but becoming more focused with each class. I can feel my spine and hips opening with each class as well. It's great to sit down afterwards to reflect on how you feel, and what you felt, I've even started keeping a journal. I highly recommend it, although the laundry part is a tough one.

I'm on Day 25 of a 40 day challenge ending on Christmas Eve. The most useful tip that I've received is to listen to my body, and do whatever it needs. There were a few classes in which I simply stayed in savasana. Yoga is not about immediate results, it's a practice to be present in our bodies and minds, and in turn we gain awareness of our bodies and minds. This awareness is the first step to live consciously.

I'm looking forward to completing the 40-day challenge, and who knows, maybe after I come back from Christmas holidays, I'll do a 108 day challenge!

Having done a 3-month "challenge", I had to keep reminding myself to stop thinking about practise as a "workout". With practise, you simply have to return to your mat and breathe. You don't have to "go hard", "feel the burn", or whatever. When you don't feel energetic, or you're a bit sore, or cranky and stressed, you don't have to give up and skip out on your practise because you feel like there's no way you could possibly hold warrior 3 for 8 breaths. Just feel good about being there (wherever there is), listen to your body and do what you can - because it's all amazing.

When you think of it that way, it's easy to be consistent! :)

I'm actually on day 338 of a one year challenge!

When I first started, I wasn't sure I'd even make it to 40 days. But as I kept going, I've learned that--for me at least-- yoga isn't just about taking a class. It's been about learning to practice on my own (I've prob done about 1/3 of my challenge at home, on the beach, in hotels, in airplane lounges... wherever!).

And now I know that I can take yoga with me, anywhere, after my challenge is finished....

I've done a few challenges. My first was a 30 day Bikram challenge. The #1 thing that I learned form the challenge? It's OK to be a bit gross and hang your towel to dry instead of washing it after every use. Daily laundry is BRUTAL and wasteful. And if you're lucky enough to own a Manduka towel, it is even less gross (honest, I promise).

Also, if you are going it alone, at least enroll your friends in what you're doing so that they won't give you a hard time for needing to go home early from a party because you need to get up for the next morning's 6am class. Blogging about the challenge (be it through a traditional blog, or through a microblogging site) is a fantastic way to be able to revisit how you were feeling in each class, what was going through your mind... If you don't, you're going to forget and every class will bleed together. A nice long challenge is such an awesome feat, you'll want to be able to look back and remember.

Lastly, make friends with the people who are also doing the challenge! You'll learn so much from the people who are doing it with you!

I'm 56 and for the first time EVER I am being TRUE to my "yoga commitment"! Since March 6th of this year,I have been faithfully doing yoga EVERYDAY! There are times when I drag my sorry self to the old mat,(getting a new one for Christmas):~) But when I'm finished my 45 mins-hour,I'm SO PROUD of myself. I have no way to make classes, and I live in a rural area. I am using Rodney Yee's 8 weeks to Balance book, this has been a wonderful tool! My Arthritis has improved alot and I am not so cranky!!

Currently taking part in a 25-days of Yoga challenge, from Dec. 1st until Christmas day! I've loved every day of it; if I don't have time for a full class or podcast, I simply do a few forward folds and choose one pose for the day. It's a great way to stretch out at night or in the morning!
