As a Canadian, I stand by the world’s perception that Canucks are nice people (maybe even too nice) and I’ll admit that we do tend to over-apologize (sorry guys, it’s true). But as a new kid in town, I’m confident in saying that the nicest people I’ve ever met all call Vancouver home.
How do you put four days of life-changing yoga and celebration at Wanderlust Festival in Lake Tahoe into words without sounding like you drank a big glass of Kool-Aid? Alana’s solution: lists.
Today our on-the-mat correspondent Alana got in touch with her inner pole dancer, cleaned out her personal “junk drawer”, met her mat neighbours, had a yoga breakthrough and laid a pretend egg. And this was just the first day of the Wanderlust festival.
What is amazing to me is that everyone has their own reason for coming to their mat and that the same series of postures can mean so many different things, and present so many different challenges, to so many different people. While talking with 4 local yogis, I took the opportunity to ask them what initially brought them to their mats and how they continue to push themselves to break new ground.
Sometimes I feel like Deanne has the energy to do more in a day than I do into a week. When she’s not running, doing yoga, spending time with her kids and VPing our brand, we harness her energy to power the office and two-thirds of the downtown core. 26 miles of pavement pounding can be a daunting prospect, so when our friends set their minds to completing Vancouver’s recent BMO marathon we were determined to support them. “When someone’s cheering you on and telling you, ‘you can do it,’ it shuts up the little voice inside your head that’s telling you otherwise.” says Matt Corker. As runners approached our cheered squad it was great to see heads come up and smiles come out.
