If your dad works out and sweats, and you have yet to introduce him to our amazing Silverescent™ and moisture wicking fabrics, he’s in for a real sweet smelling treat this Father’s Day.

Almost two years ago, I introduced my dad, Terry, to yoga. My dad's a cotton t-shirt and cargo shorts kind of man, with shin high socks tucked into construction boots. He naturally gravitated to baggy cotton tees when he began practicing yoga. Although a man rather set in his ways, he listened when I told him the right clothing can change his practice. I introduced him to moisture wicking tops and shorts, and Silverescent™ fibres, today he wouldn’t be caught dead without it. Since starting hot yoga and cycling, here are a few reasons why despite a lot of sweat, my dad doesn't stink.

the magic of silverescent™

In all of our technical men's fabrics you will find moisture wicking properties, great stretch, mobility and comfort that men literally fall for. In some of our pieces, you will find the magic that is Silverescent™. This fabric uses X-Static® silver yarn which makes our tech tops anti-bacterial, or as we like to say, anti-stink! Synthetics tend to hold onto odour-causing bacteria even after washing. The silver in some of our tops virtually eliminates bacteria so it remains stink-free after you wash it. It's also moisture wicking and pre-shrunk.

My dad's favourite stink fighting hot yoga outfit: Flash Tech SS & Run:Response Shorts

Flash Tech SS in Coal/Tequila Sunrise: My dad loves this top because it feels like he's not wearing any layers, which is key to not over heating in hot yoga. It also wicks his sweat extremely quickly. It is also very comfortable, and thanks to Silverescent™ fibres woven throughout, he doesn't stink and can take me to dinner after our Monday night hot yoga class.
Details from left to right: Slim fitting w/ with smooth luxtreme fabric for comfortable shoulder movement, luxtreme neckband, flat-seamed, and a pocket for cards or keys.

Run:Response Shorts in Tequila Sunrise/Vancouver: My dad loves these shorts because they are super comfortable, "stretchy", and long enough to make him feel comfortable in yoga. They wick moisture really quickly, and dry fast, so he loves them for hot yoga and his cycling adventures.

Details from left to right: Elastic waistband with a drawstring that won't come out, built in seamless boxer brief, mesh paneling for extra ventilation, and secure zip pocket.

Why We Made This:

Don't worry about wearing underwear -- we built it in for you!

Non-chafing flat-seamed liner.

Secure zip pocket for your valuables.

Elastic waistband with drawstring that won't pull out.

Mesh paneling for added ventilation.

Moisture wicking.

My dad may be hot, but he doesn’t stink. Love you Dad, proud of you and your journey with yoga! Namaste.

Yes this is me under his armpits after his hot yoga session, he really doesn't stink!

My dad is really awesome. His name is Terry Holum but prefers the name T-Hol, to which we all oblige. I inherited a lot of great traits from him like my addiction to chocolate, excessive competitiveness, and an over all laid back sense of life and humor. I love my dad more than anything as he has supported me without fail in every aspect of my life, with the exception of when I once dyed my hair hot pink. Literally it was neon and I was 16, but we've moved on.

He taught me to play baseball, which turned out to be the first love of my life. Taught me to ride a bike. He had innovative ways of making me a better softball player such as teaching me to catch and judge fly balls by launching potatoes out of a "spud gun" in the backyard much to my mom's delight.

He taught me to fight my own battles, when I felt life was unfair, and let me challenge my teachers and coaches on my own. I thus survived AP calculus even though to this day I know Mrs. Wilson hated me and graded my tests on an extreme curve.

In college when softball for the first time in my life was challenging for me, he never let me show an ounce of wavering, and came to every game my freshmen year just to watch me sit on the bench. He told me to prove to the coaches why I should play everyday at practice and be the best cheerleader on the bench. I am not a cheerleader, and this one was tough to hear, but I played the next year and he was right.

When I faced a bout with cancer and had a softball worth of tissue removed from my inner thigh and had to be on crutches for 6 weeks, he made sure I had the top of the line ergonomic crutches that actually had shocks on them and I was able bounce around like "Tigger".

Since I began my career with lululemon I have realized that my dad's love reaches beyond a classroom or baseball diamond, it has surprisingly made its way to a yoga mat. My dad has worked in construction for the past 30 years, built our home from scratch, plays every sport known to man, will only drink Coors Light, which is referred to as "God's Brew" in our house, and is not exactly the portrait of a yogi. Think of Paul Bunyan practicing tree pose, and you can imagine my dad in his first yoga session. Nonetheless every Saturday morning you will find him and my mom tucked in the corner of our La Jolla store practicing yoga with the other guests in our community.

He now brags to the rest of his "God's Brew" drinking crew after slo-pitch softball games of his pain free joints thanks to yoga, which at most times he is met with a lot of laughter and banter. But he proudly shows them the inside of his Metal Vent Tech shirt that says "And make sure to drink a beer or two along the way", and he is right back in there with the studs at Hooley's Pub.

He has found a way to be a part of my life by exploring an area he would never even consider beforehand. He is a man who is comfortable in his ways, and hates the idea of the unknown and change. For him to practice yoga and to say the words "hey get me one of those mandukas so I can get into crow's pose" gives me goose-bumps and truly reminds me how lucky I am to have him as a father. From the softball diamond to the yoga mat, he has been there so hopefully he will be happy at father's day brunch with his new manduka mat instead of golf clubs this year. I am literally getting married in a week from Father's Day, and cannot think of a luckier girl to walk down the aisle on the arm of my daddy. Who by the way requested a yoga session the morning of the wedding to stay calm and centered…gotta love him.

We sent out an email this week with education points on how to figure out how our men's hoodies will fit on your dad. We only had room for three main education points in the email and on the home page, so here is the men's hoodies director's cut! I consulted Steve at the Guest Education Centre for the facts about fit and function since he owns and wears both the Full Time Hoodie and the Protagonist Jacket and asked him to add his own first-hand knowledge of the products. His comments are below.

1.	lots of room

Our men's hoodies have a more boxy shape than the women's ones you may be used to, which fit quite close to the body. There is more room in the arm, chest, and back areas of our men's hoodies. When wearing the hoodie, your dad should be able to easily move his arms. If it feels tight across the back or chest, try going up a size.

Steve says: The Protagonist Jacket fits much slimmer than the Full Time Hoodie. As a result, most men may find that they are more comfortable dropping down a size in the Full Time because they don't need quite as much room as it provides. However, most guys will probably chose to stick with their regular size in the Protagonist Jacket. For example, I wear a medium in most of our products, including the Protagonist Jacket, but I wear a small in the Full Time hoodies.

2.	dads like pockets

Like most of our products, our men's hoodies have well-placed and deep pockets. The Full Time Hoodie has a zippered pocket on the chest for storing dad stuff like coins, toothpicks, or a Tim Hortons gift card.

Steve says: The pockets in the Protagonist Jacket are mesh lined, which allows for breath ability in addition to stash space. The FT Hoodie has a secure 'hook and loop fastener' (that stuff that sticks like a burr to dog fur and makes a scratchy sound) coin pocket which works great for meter money or whatever!

3.	won't shrink

Our hoodies are washed three times before the zipper is added, so it will stay flat and won't buckle after washing. Also, Lycra is added to the fabric so you won't have to worry about the size changing or the colour fading.

Steve says: The Protagonist Jacket comes in Classic Sport Grey & Heathered Sky, which are two pretty informal colours that are easy to match with the Chief Shorts or even with jeans. For a slightly dressier look, I'd recommend the black hoodie, because it looks sharp, it's easy to match, and is always popular with the fellas. When it comes to sizes, don't count on them shrinking, because they won't! If it fits in the store it will fit - it's a winner!

4.	double-lined hood

The hood is lined with double cotton, which gives it lots of structure and will definitely keep your dad's head warm on chilly evenings.

Steve says: Although the Protagonist Jacket's hood is double-lined, it's still thinner than the hood on the FT Hoodie. It will shape itself to your head even better than the FT hood, so this is the one for guys who like to throw the hood up from time to time.
