I ran the original marathon course in Athens, Greece last year - 2,500th anniversary! We're heading up to the Poconos to run the Run for the Red Marathon & Half in May (best small town race EVER) and then the San Antonio Rock n Roll in November. We'll be decked out in our favorite Lululemon gear!

I've done several races abroad and many more close to home and every marathon offers its own unique feel and experience.
For fun in the sun, I highly recommend Rio de Janeiro, as well as Miami. I've heard great things about the Gold Coast Marathon in Australia.
To run the course that legends have run, you can't beat the feel of giving it your all in Boston. If you are looking for a fast qualifier, Amsterdam was one of the flattest routes I've ever run 42.2k on, and closer to home, Road 2 Hope in Hamilton has the fastest percentage of finishers with BQ times of any race, and the size of the field is growing a lot each year.
For a fun time, you can't beat the Disney Marathon, or maybe even try the Goofy Challenge by running the Half the day before the full.
If challenges are what you are looking for, why not sign up for the Great Wall Marathon in China? It's not the cheapest race I've ever done, but the experience was like nothing else.
If you are in Australia, and want to see the ACT, the Canberra Marathon would give you a complete tour of the best of the capital. They even have a 50k option if you are feeling courageous. I under-estimated how much can change in those last 7.8k.
For the best big races in Canada, I can only speak great things of the Waterfront Marathon in Toronto, having finished it 6 times in a row now. Ottawa is also a big city favourite of mine. If you like smaller races better, check out the Prince Edward Country Marathon in Picton, Ottawa Fall Colours Race, or the Waterloo Marathon through Amish Country.
Niagara Falls is a cool destination race too, because you get to hang out in Buffalo in an fancy fine art museum before the start of the race, which takes you across the Peace Bridge before heading down the shore towards the Falls.
I'm sure there's some I forgot, but those are the highlights from me!
Some races I look forward to doing in the future are the Antarctic Marathon, Comrades in South Africa, London Marathon and maybe Chicago and Berlin.

I ran the NYC marathon this past November and was so thrilled to get cheered on by Lululemon employees! They recognized my outfit :) Great suggestions for marathons to run - I'm ready to tackle some new ones.

I travel the world racing in marathons and triathlons. There is no greater way to see the world! Right now I am in Miami training for 5 days and running the ING Miami Half Marathon (beautiful race).
I see you have the Paris Marathon on your list; while yes, it is a fabulous race (did it last year), and the Wineglass Marathon...get the two for one deal by running the Marathon du Meduc. It is the BEST wine tasting marathon in the world! 26.2 miles through the Bordeaux Region of France.

How about Bermuda marathon in January 2012 (it has just passed for this year!) or even better the triangle challange which consists of a mile on Friday night, 10k on Saturday and 1/2 or full marathon on Sunday! http://www.bermudaraceweekend.com/
Wish we could get a lulu store in Bermuda but LOVE the international shipping and almost every runner and yogi on this island owns lulu!

WOW Sarah! Sounds like you should write a book. :) That race is Tuscany is almost enough to motivate me to run 40K. Almost. Thanks for sharing the list! Good luck with your races this year.

Great list! Last year, on a round-the-world trip, I ran some great marathons: Buenos Aires, Salomon K42 Adventure Trail Marathon in Patagonia, and an obscure 40K almost marathon in Tuscany. This year, not so lucky in terms of travel, but I'm aiming for Lithia Loop trail marathon in Oregon and/or a marathon in Minnesota such as Grandma's. I publish a travel-oriented running site called The Runner's Trip to keep myself motivated to plan destination-oriented running, with the belief that travel makes me a better runner and running makes a better trip. I'll share your list with others :-).

Great post on where to look for races! The online running community is so supportive and the resources available have vastly improved. Thank you for offering running clubs at most of your stores and being a part of helping people achieve their goals!
