how do i wash my lululemon?

How the heck do I was this stuff?

One of the (many) things I love about our product is that we have lots of options for washing our gear. Almost all of our product is pre-shrunk, so there are no surprises when you take it home and wash it – the exceptions being the obvious like our outerwear and accessories.

Now, I personally choose to wash my gear in cold water. Most of our fabrics have a high Lycra content and the heat from repetitive hot washes and hot dryers can break down that Lycra over time. I happen to have enough lululemon product to make full loads (yes – one white, one black, and one ‘grey’ with all my brights) so keeping them away from very ‘cotton-y’ clothing and anything abrasive (think denim, towels, hoodies – anything with a zipper or anything that produces ‘fluff’ in the dryer) is pretty easy for me. Our fabrics are pretty special (I know we’ve perfected it but it really does take something special to make all of our bums look that good) and anything abrasive such as denim or something with a zipper can be harmful, especially in a repetitive motion like in a washer and dryer.

On the flip side, washing your lululemon with really soft fluffy items like towels and hoodies can leave your lululemon with the little bits of fluff attaching to it and creating those little ‘balls’ which tends to look like pilling and makes your clothing look older faster.

Now, that said, I love love love knowing that if I’m in a rush or in a bind or travelling and I need something washed and dried asap – I’m totally safe if I wash it in warm and throw it in the dryer.

Hang to dry!

My other – and favourite reason for washing my clothing in cold and hanging to dry is our lovely environment. It takes a lot less energy to wash clothing in cold water and hang it to dry than it does to wash and dry in hot. Can you imagine the environmental impact if every single load of laundry that contained a pair of Groove Pants, for one year straight was washed in cold and hung to dry?

how to wash your lululemon outerwear

Our blog artist Elissa on how to wash your jackets:

Now for the outerwear.  If you’re like me, and you jumped on the Apres Sport jacket when it came out, you’ve probably had it sitting pretty, waiting for the temperature to drop.  It’s finally happening and soon it will be time for it to hit the laundry bin.

I machine wash my older Apres Yoga Jacket in cold water and hang it to dry.  You can do the same with your jacket – tweed or softshell, Bomber, Apres Sport, or Embark.    (Plan ahead with this one, because it is not good for it to go in the dryer. The bonding that holds the layers of the softshell together can come undone.)

The down-filled pieces, like the (Not-So) Stuffy Puffy and the men’s Altitude Vest, are much simpler to care for than I thought.  Just throw them into a front loading machine and repeat after me: gentle cycle, cold water, low dryer.  That’s it!

Hi.
I love my shorts and have 2 pair, wearing every day 7 days a week. I work out like crazy, sometimes twice a day (have lost 40lbs). My shorts are starting to smell. I was them on the “active ware” setting of my washer and use Tide and Oxy Clean… and always wash the same day of my work outs. They don’t sit around. Any advice? One of the shorts was purchased in May.
Thanks!

Additionally I like to use detergent specially formulated for workout clothes. It gets any stink out and rinses really well.

is it ok to wash my scuba hoodies along with my lulu pants? would the zipper ruin my pants? is it better just to wash my hoodie with my other clothing?

I find the Remix Hoodie Lux has to be put in the dryer on medium to get it dry and soft, it takes too long on the low setting, and it does not dry properly. It does not shrink however I am concerned the lyrca will break down in time.

I don’t know any other guys that have enough Lululemon wear to last them 2 weeks…. but after I wash mine, I then I hang dry them in my bathroom and throughout my place (I live in small apartment). My guests always have to fight their way through them to use the facilities… LOL. The most comment made is: “are you the warehouse for Lululemon or what!!” Hang dry is the best result for drying your Lulu wear ;)

I have a wine colored Podium gym bag that had an unfortunate meeting with a broken bottle of hairspray and now smells terrible:( Any tips on how to clean it? Not sure if it is washing machine or dry cleaning safe!
Thanks!

Comment by Arie — June 5, 2010 @ 6:16 pm

Hey Arie,

I don’t think that fabric should go in the washer. Have a look on the inside of the bag, there should be a label with information on what its made of an washing instructions.
I have a different bag that is more nylon and it says not to put it in the washing machine. I would suggest wiping the bag down and letting it air somewhere ventilated and see if that helps it.

I do a lot of hot yoga…and immediately upon returning I rinse all my lululemon clothes in cold water and put them in the washing machine immediately. I hang them to dry – but they are all starting to SMELL. None of my other cotton-based clothes smell, and I can’t figure out what to do. I’ve tried using apple cider vinegar in the rinse cycle, baking soda, etc and nothing works.
Any ideas??

Comment by HYC — June 9, 2010 @ 3:38 pm

Hmmm this is an interesting problem. My first thought is to clean the washing machine. Either use the self-cleaning function or run the machine without clothes in it to clear out anything that might be causing the odour in your clothing.

You could also try using a different detergent. I find that the highly concentrated detergents work very well, and you need less of it to get your clothes clean.

Comment by Laura M — June 9, 2010 @ 4:07 pm

For SMELLY cloths use a product called ODOBAN in your washing machine. The SMELL is bacteria that has built up in your cloths. ODOBAN is a sanitizer and kills bacteria that are trapped in your cloths and washing machine. It will not hurt your clothing. I have tons of lulu and I wash mine on sanitary cycle with ODOBAN and no more SMELLS :) They sell it at Home Depot. They have a facebook page as well.

I know everyone has an idea for getting the stink out of their smelly clothes…I just sifted through post after post on all kinds of sites trying to find out how to remove all the Crossfit stink from my husband’s ad my Lulu..

The winner for me? WIN DETERGENT…It is safe for lycra, works in cold water and leaves our clothes fresh and soft…no stink at all!!

It also happens to be the official detergent of the US Olympic team. FInd it at Sports Authority or some local running shops.

WIN DETERGENT is awesome!!

Comment by Luisa — June 13, 2010 @ 8:49 am

I have tried WIN, not in my new front load, am trying Woolite dark right now on my lulu darks, have tried the febreze sport and tide with febreze also, nothing keeps them smelling fresh! They smell fresh but when I start to sweat they smell again which means they really weren’t clean in the first place.

Has anyone tried white vinegar in the rinse cycle with a front load washer?

Thanks for the odoban suggestion, maybe that would work for my man’s dirtbike gear also? Do you put the odoban in the softener cycle of a front loader machine?

Comment by Sabrina — June 20, 2010 @ 4:40 am

I wash all of mine (jackets, hoodies, still pants, shorts etc) on warm wash with all my other clothing and tumble dry on delicate with about 4 sheets of fabric softener.. I have tons of stuff and have done this for years and its still all going strong, I wear my stuff daily because of the work I do and need some item the next day so washing and tumble drying is a must for me.
However.. without the dryer sheets the dryer affects the material…

i need to wash me lululemon sweater to go on a trip how long will it take to dry? and is it ok to wash lulu sweaters with normal clothing, like t-shirts, shorts lingere, ect?

thx :)

Comment by I***** — August 11, 2010 @ 6:07 pm

Hi there,
The amount of time it takes a hoodie to dry can vary depending on the temperature and humidity of the place it is drying in. I normally leave mine overnight (10-12 hours) and it is dry. Also, cotton hoodies tend to take longer to dry than our luon jackets.

If your sweater is made from cotton, I would recommend washing with similar fabrics (t-shirts, shorts, etc.. should be fine), in cold water and tumble drying on low or hanging to dry. If your sweater is made from luon, again only wash with similar fabrics (other luon, or nylon materials). Washing luon with cotton fabrics can cause cotton pills to attach themselves to your the luon fabric, which is something you want to avoid. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Will putting lululemon into the dryer make my lululemon smell funny? If there is a distinct smell in my lululemon, what can i do to make it better? (Drying outside it not an option for me at this moment in time)

Comment by Rebecca — October 9, 2010 @ 5:57 pm

Hey Rebecca,

Putting your lululemon into the dryer shouldn’t cause a funny odor. For optimum care, we do recommend you hang to dry, but if you do use the dryer, make sure you’re using a low heat setting.

If you are experiencing a smell to your lululemon, try adding some baking soda to your load.

So I got my lulus for my birthday from my boyfriend and I LOVE them. I’m at college so the washing machines arn’t the best….I’m really careful about not washing them with towels or what not and I don’t dry them. BUT I still have little pill looking like things on the bum…a lint brush alone doesn’t do the trick, any suggestions?

Comment by Chelsea — October 23, 2010 @ 6:57 pm

Hi Chelsea,

It’s great to hear that you’re loving your lululemon pants! The nylon fibers in the luon tend to be electro-statically charged and will attract other fibers. If this happens, little ‘balls’ will appear on luon’s surface. For optimal care, we recommend that luon be washed in cold water with similar fabrics and, hung to dry. To prevent pilling, avoid washing or drying your luon with cottons, towels, and other abrasive fabrics. To remove existing pilling from your garments, you can try using a depiller or an electric shaver.

If you’re following these instructions and you’re still experiencing problems, you can take your pants into your local store to have an educator do an assessment. If you’re not near a store, you can also give us a call at the Guest Education Centre, and one of our educators here will be able to help you out!

I washed all my lululemon pants and tanks and accidentally left kleenex in my pocket. Now my lulu is covered in little white balls. I tried re-washing it, using a sticky paper roller and putting it in the dryer. Nothing has helped!! It is pretty much all my lulu stuff so I am desperate!!

Comment by Paige — December 8, 2010 @ 11:01 am

Hi Paige,
Kleenex is notoriously difficult to get off of luon because luon’s strong static charge holds onto it. Try popping your pieces in the dryer on low with a dryer sheet to reduce the static, and then take the sticky roller to them again.

Comment by haley — December 15, 2010 @ 1:37 pm

Hi haley,
A sticky roller can be your best friend when it comes to removing the lint from your luon. If it doesn’t work right away, try putting your luon in the dryer, on low, with a dryer sheet to reduce the static. Then try the roller again.

I recently bought a pair of lululemon groove pants and they are a little bit long on me, i bought some of this tape stuff that you put on the fabric and then use your iron to shorten the pants, is it safe to use the iron on my pants or will it melt them?

Comment by Bryanne — December 20, 2010 @ 12:08 pm

Hi Bryanne,
We don’t recommend using an iron on your pants, as the high heat may damage the luon fabric. If your pants are too long, you may want to get them hemmed. Did you know that our stores offer complimentary hemming? Just head into your local store and an educator will pin the hem for you. You can find a store near you using our store finder: http://bit.ly/c4XH4B

I just bought my first pair of lululemon work out pants (actually bought 4 pairs). But I went to wash the first pair and totally forgot NOT to wash them with cotton clothes and fabric softener. I did both! Ugh! I did hang dry them though. Are they ruined from washing them wrong 1 time?

Comment by Stefanie — January 13, 2011 @ 10:58 am

Hi Stefanie,

It shouldn’t be a problem if you just washed them with cottons one time. The reason we recommend washing your luon items separately is because the fabric is electrostatically charged, so it tends to attract and hold on to weaker fibres like cotton. When this happens, little white balls appear on the fabric, which is called pilling.

If you are noticing that your pants are pilling and/or attracting other fibres, you should be able to remove them with a sticky lint roller or a fabric shaver, which can be purchased at most drug stores.

If you have any further questions, feel free to call our GEC at 1.877.263.9300, option 2.

I have other lulu tops and have never had this problem before. Just wondering if there is something I can do?, or why this is happening to this top.

thanks

Comment by Sarah — January 13, 2011 @ 8:23 pm

Hey Sarah,
Thanks for taking the time to write your post. The greenish marks you are noticing are related to body chemistry. Some of our guests do experince this with the Snorkel Blue colour, it’s basically a reaction with your pH and the dye. It should wash out with no problem, but if it doesn’t I would suggest taking it into a local store or calling us at the Guest Education Centre, 1.877.263.9300 option #

Hey Ashley,
You can wash those just like you would our other technical items; cold wash, similar fabrics, avoid using fabric softeners and be sure to tie the drawstrings so they don’t get pulled. To dry, optimally hang to dry, they should dry very quickly, but if you need to put them on in a dryer, put it on a low setting.
Personally, I have a front-end loader, and drawstrings are notorious for getting caught, so I put items like this in a delicates bag to prevent it.

Comment by Isa — January 19, 2011 @ 12:17 pm

If you’re looking to wash two headbands, consider just washing them in your sink with a drop of light detergent. It saves water, you get the job done quickly, and you can hang them to dry overnight. I do that with my luon when I’m travelling and it’s a breeze. Just a suggestion.

Comment by Elissa Joy — January 19, 2011 @ 12:36 pm

Hi Mary and Lottie,

As with most of our items, we recommend machine washing in cool to warm water on a gentle cycle, with similar fabrics, and without fabric softners. For drying we recommend laying flat or hanging to dry.

@Mary: We don’t recommend using any bleach on your items, so the same washing instructions apply. To keep your clothes super fresh, you can add a little baking soda in your wash from time to time.

I had some colour transfer from another item to my white lulu hoodie (cotton). Is it safe to use bleach to try and remove the dye?

Comment by Shelly — January 23, 2011 @ 1:38 pm

Hi Laura, For handwashing, I recommend washing in the sink with cold water and using a mild detergent like Zero or Woolite.

Hi Skater5, I recommend washing your darker items together for the first few washes just to ensure that any excess dye is removed. After that, you should be able to wash all of your coloured items together.

Hi Shelly, Using a small amount of bleach in the wash when washing your white items can help to remove the coloured dye. I’m always concerned about “yellowing” when using bleach, so I say less is more.

Hey Colleen,
The pique fabric is actually made of luon, but it just feels different because it has a different weave. It’s fine to wash any of our technical fabrics together whether it be, luon, luxtreme, swift, cool max, silverescenet etc.
I would wash them all the same; cold water, gentle cycle, similar fabrics, no fabric softener, avoid velcros, and hang to dry or low heat in the dryer.

Hey Maggie,

You can definitely wash your luon and luxtreme items together. You just want to make sure to wash them separate from other fabrics like cottons; but other technical fabrics are fine. As long as your other work out clothing doesn’t contain cotton, it shouldn’t be a problem to wash them together.

Hey Maggie,
You should be fine to wash your technical lululemon pieces with other synthetic garments and workout pieces. Technical fabrics are ones that are specifically designed for working out, like luon our signature fabric.

If you have any cotton or other natural fibre clothing from us, these should be washed with only with other natural fabrics. The rule of thumb is basically wash only with similar fabrics. Hope that helps!

Comment by Brooklyn — March 8, 2011 @ 3:56 pm

Hi Brooklyn!

If you’re seeing some “fuzzies” on your pants, a de-piller or fabric shaver can help remove them. These are available at most department or drug stores.

As for the size, there should be a small, white size circle somewhere on your pants. It’s usually found in the hidden pocket in the waistband.

It sounds like you’ve been taking very good care of your pants, so I’m surprised to hear you’re seeing fading so quickly. I recommend popping into a store to show your pants to one of our educators. He or she will be able to make an assessment for you.

Hi! I’ve been doing a fair bit of hot yoga, and was finding a couple of my lulu tops were really holding the odour… to be fair, I wasn’t washing them right away (bit of a waste of energy), but I didn’t remember this being a problem before.

I read this post as well as other posts on a google search, and decided to use baking soda (or a form of it – sodium tetracarbonate) to re-wash these tops. Either that or the fabric softener I used (once off, last time I washed them – won’t do it again after reading this post) disintegrated the lycra in my tops :(

Anyone at Lulu have any comments? Any idea what the culprit is? Because the sodium tetracarbonate got the smell out so I’d like to use it in the future if it is safe!

Thank you!

Would it be safe to take all my Lulu clothing to a dry cleaner?

Comment by Danielle — March 22, 2011 @ 7:25 am

Hi! Still hoping for a lulu response to my post from March 17th :)

Thank you!

Comment by shiatsugurl — March 23, 2011 @ 8:13 am

Hi shiatsugurl,
I tried to do some digging for you, but I couldn’t find anything to explain why your tops disintegrated. I’m not familiar with sodium tetracarbonate so I can’t comment as to whether or not this caused the problems with your tops. I haven’t heard of anything like this happening with our products before. I say sticking with regular washing instructions – cold water, mild detergent, tumble dry on low or hang to dry – is your best bet. If you’re experiencing odour that is more than normal, feel free to head into a store to discuss this with one of our educators.

Hi Danielle,
I’m not sure it would be wise to take your lululemon items to a dry cleaner. There’s really no need; you can wash them as you would any other garment. I do recommend washing your items in cold, and keeping like fabrics together, especially luon, which should be washes separately from cottons.

Great comments on the odor-ific problems. I do hot yoga too – with almost everyone wearing Lulu (what’s the deal with that? :) ) and the room can get pretty intense. I’ll try the WIN and let you know. Also, I made the mistake early on of combining my rougher clothes with my Lulu in the wash, so I’m just living with the ruined material.

Hi. I have a pair of black Astro crop pants made of luon that I love, but it has been REALLY stinky for the past few weeks no matter how much I wash them. The smell has gotten really bad that I don’t want to wear them. I had them for at least 6 months before it started to smell. None of my other Lululemon items or clothes have this problem. Is there any special way to get rid of this smell? It’s a mysterious to me why it’s only this one item that smells so bad. Help.

Comment by Rachel — April 9, 2011 @ 2:44 am

Lulu!

Help! I spilt glue on my pants (the bottle exploded in my hand) How do I get it off? I found a solution online that said to place a cotton square on the glued parts of the pants and gently iron to heat up the glue. The glue will then be attached to the cotton to be removed. HOWEVER, I saw where yall do not recomend using an iron on your pants… What do I do?

Desperate in Florida :(

how do you wash a scuba hoodie properly so it doesn’t become shapeless?

Comment by meghan — April 10, 2011 @ 4:29 pm

Hey Meghan,
For the Scuba Hoodies, it is best to wash them on a cold cycle and hang to dry when possible. For all of our cotton items, we add lycra to them. This helps prevent any bagging out that normally happens with cotton, so you shouldn’t have any issues losing the shape.

hey desperat ein florida, it should be fine as long as you use the hottset setting, as any low settings might make the glue stick more, our pants are fine, the same thing happened to me, no worries. tell me if anything goes wrong. But it shouldnt. Alright thats all for now, later! Lulu

Comment by Lulu — April 11, 2011 @ 3:39 pm

@Renee: Sorry to hear about your pants! We don’t recommend putting high heat on you pants, but you can try putting them in the freezer and picking the glue off once it has hardened.

@Leah: Your Define Jacket is made of luon, so it’s important to wash it with like-fabrics, free of fabric softeners, and separate from fabrics like cottons (towels and socks especially). Since the nylon fibres in luon are electro-statically charged, they will attract cotton fibres, which will form as small white balls on the fabric (pilling). The most important fabric to avoid therefore, is cotton. You can wash your jacket with other technical fabrics, or, if you don’t have many other technical pieces, you can hand wash your jacket.

@Kate: I would recommend hand-washing your bra, and letting it soak for awhile in soapy water. This should help with the smell!

~ Jordan

Comment by GEC Online Community — April 12, 2011 @ 11:56 am

Hey Rachel,

I would recommend soaking your pants in detergent a couple of times to help with the smell. You can also try washing (and/or soaking) them using a detergent meant specifically for sportswear. Either option should help with the odour.

thanks for any tips. I already tried Spray -n-Wash.

Comment by Carol — May 17, 2011 @ 10:28 am

Hi Stacy,
I’d avoid using bleach as it may impact the print. Try soaking the cuffs of your hoodie to give it a little extra clean before throwing it in the wash.

Hi Elizabeth and Carol,
Grease and rust are tough ones! I don’t normally recommend stain removers with our products as there’s a chance it could damage the colour. I say presoak your tops before washing and see if the stains start to fade. It may take some time, but hopefully you’ll start to see improvement.

I just bought lulu dance shorts for my recital. I am going swimming this weekend and i want to know if it will ruin my pants. It’s in a lake so i think it should be fine but if I wanted to go swimming in saltwater? Chlorine pools? would that ruin them?

Comment by Dancer and Swimer — May 19, 2011 @ 8:15 pm

Hi Dancer and Swimer,
The only shorts we have that are designed for water are the Paradise Short Short http://bit.ly/mMJngv. While lake water may not ruin the shorts you purchased, salt water or chlorinated water may damage the material. We don’t recommend swimming in them as they weren’t designed to withstand water.

I would suggest washing it with similar fabrics on a cold cycle and hang to dry.

Hey Mary,
The Best Breath Wrap is made of Vitasea, which is cotton, blended with seaweed to make it extra soft, and has some added lycra for stretch. I would suggest washing it on a cold, gentle cycle with the cottons and hanging it to dry.

Hi, I washed all of my new lululemon with fabric softener before reading that it is a no-no. Will my clothes be okay?

Comment by Lisa — May 28, 2011 @ 12:25 am

Hey Lisa,
Your clothes should be ok. The fabric softener clogs the pores of the technical fabrics, so it makes the fabric not wick away sweat as well. When you wash your items next time, it should return to its normal wicking level, as the softener is washed away.

Comment by Jade — July 7, 2011 @ 8:40 am

Hey Jade,
Thanks for the question. Our headbands can be washed like our other technical product. I would suggest putting it into a delicates bag so it doesn’t get caught on anything. Cold water, and hang to dry is best. If you don’t have other technical piece to wash it with, you can wash it in a basin, cold water, with a small amount of detergent. You can always let the headband sit awhile to help remove the stain.
Hope that helps,

how do i wash the mudra wrap?

Comment by margarita — July 11, 2011 @ 8:29 am

Thanks for all of your washing questions ladies!

@Joni – washing instructions are on the tear out tag, they are all of the little symbols you see.
For technical items, we recommend washing them with similar fabrics (other technical gear, no cottons), cold wash, no fabric softener. Our items can be put in the dryer, but it’s best to hang to dry. Our run shorts dry very quickly, so you should be fine just hanging them to dry.

@Anita – bleach will alter the colour. If you have stains on the hoodie, I’d suggest spraying stain remover on the affected areas and letting them soak. Be careful with some stain removers as they contain bleach.

@ Margarita – Great question on how to wash wraps that are made of a delicate knit, like the Mudra Wrap! I wash them with my regular wash (cottons etc), in cold water, delicate cycle, or personally like to put it in a delicate bag to protect it a bit more. I recommend lying flat to dry as well. There is also the option of hand washing, but avoid scrubbing the fabric as it can ball because of the cashmere.
Hope that helps! And always feel free to give us a call at the Guest Education Cenrtre if you need any advice, 1.877.263.9300 option #2

Hey Kat,
For washing our cotton fleece Scuba Hoodies, you can wash them with your regular cotton wash. We recommend putting it in cold water, and hanging to dry or putting it on low heat in the dryer. You can use a stain remover spray on it, but be careful that it doesn’t contain any bleach in. Bleach will affect the colour and pattern.

The rip out tags on all of our items have washing instructions specific to that fabric. In general, we recommend washing most items in cold water, on a gentle cycle (free of fabric softeners) and either laying them flat, or hanging them to dry. The air dry option on your dryer should also be fine. Additionally, for luon items, we recommend washing separately from cottons as they the cotton fibres may cause pilling.

Hey Noa,

We actually don’t recommend putting any of our mats in the washing machine. If you want a lighter clean you can fill a spray bottle with water and a drop of dish soap, then wipe it down. If you’re looking for a deeper clean you can fill your bathtub with warm water and some dish soap, submerge your mat and air dry.

Hope this helps!

Hi – What is the best way to wash the live healthy wraps and the universal wraps? Please help have both and debating if I should just have them both dry-cleaned which can add up quick. Thx

Comment by Ann — October 27, 2011 @ 1:21 pm

Hey All!

@ Emily: Do you have the Everyday Yoga Jacket? If so, you can pop it in the wash on a gentle cycle with cold water (I also like to zip mine up and turn it inside out so the zipper doesn’t catch on anything.) You can pre-treat any stubborn stains with a little liquid detergent. I’d also hang it to dry rather than putting it in the dryer.

@ Viviana: Because our luon fabric can become electro-statically charged, it’s best not wash it with anything that has a high cotton content such as towels or socks. Cold water with other luon and mild detergent is the best way to go. I always suggest hanging them to dry as it extends the life of the luon even more.

@ Carrie: We generally don’t recommend ironing any of our garments as the heat can damage the technical fabrics. I would swing into a store to have an educator take a look at it for you.

@ Ann: I wouldn’t suggest dry cleaning any of our products. The fabric of the Live Healthy and Universal Wraps can be delicate so I wash mine with inside a garment bag, in cold water with mild detergent. As they’re knit, I lay mine flat to dry as hanging can sometimes stretch them out.

Hope this helps!

Comment by Nicole — December 20, 2011 @ 1:51 pm

Hey rmck,
I would try using a stain removed on the effected area. If you still have the care tags, I would have a read of those and see if it allows for dry cleaning.

Hey Jill,
If the pants you have are made of luon or any of our other technical fabrics, they should be washed only with other technical fabrics. If you wash them with fabrics like cotton, they could pill. I’d suggest hand washing them if you only have one pair or not enough for a load of washing. Avoid fabric softener as well. You can either hang to dry your pants or put them on a low heat setting – again with only like fabrics.

Hey Laura,
Yes, I lint roller won’t work on that as the fluff is stuck to the nylon fibres. What you can do to remove them is use a de-piller or electric shaver. Make sure the pant is flat and you gentle go over the pant as you don’t want it to snug.

Hey Nicole,
I’ve heard some people like to put a teaspoon of baking soda in their wash and that this will eliminate any lingering odours. I’d suggest giving that try. There are also sports detergents that help with this as well.

Thanks for your questions everyone,
~Jenna

Hi,
I just purchased the black men’s Domain hoodie as a gift and the black fabric already seems to attract lint. It looks great after putting the lint roller to it, but I am wondering that even by following the wash instructions that it’ll look faded quickly…especially since my first thought was “this looks faded” due to the illusion created by the lint. The fabric is thick and super soft, which is probably why the lint attaches so well. Suggestions?!? I’m tempted to return it for another color but the black is so nice! I want it to stay that way!

Hey NC,
I’ve had my Black Remix Hoodie for about 2 years now. I’ve worn it to death, but am only noticing it to show a bit of wear after all of this time.

To keep your hoodie looking amazing, when possible, hang to dry. But as that isn’t always possible, when you pop it in the dryer, make sure it is on a low heat. Higher heats tend to age garments faster and they loose their longevity. I’ve found this is the best trick to keeping your garments looking great.

Thanks for your question,
~Jenna

I just got a pair of Studio Pants about a month ago. I absolutely love them. I noticed a very tiny little tear on my thigh (only about 1-2mm.) could I put a tiny patch on the inside of the pants to prevent it from getting any bigger?

Comment by KC — December 30, 2011 @ 8:02 am

Hey KC,
Thanks for your question. Putting a patch may help this, although the seaming my show in the area. I’m not an expert in this area, so I might suggest heading into a local tailor to get their opinion.

I love my lululemon pants, I just bought a new pair of groove pants on Boxing Day and haven’t washed them yet, but they’ve already started pilling. Is this normal? The groove pants i bought in 2006 didnt do this for months. Help pleasee?

Comment by Teresa — January 6, 2012 @ 8:50 pm

Hey Teresa,
I might suggest bringing them into your local store so an educator can have a look at them. There are different kinds of pilling, one wear cottons stick to the fabric creating coloured balls on the fabric, and there other that occurs due to abrasion caused by friction. While abrasion is a natural part of wear overtime, the rate at which it occurs will depend on the frequency of wear and if it was used for it’s intend purpose or not.

Comment by Miranda — February 7, 2012 @ 6:57 pm

Hi Rachel,
I wouldn’t recommend using anything other than washing soap. Here’s a link to some best practices when it comes to washing lululemon technical gear: http://bit.ly/w1wslA

Hi Miranda,
I recommend to resoak your hoodie before washing and see if the stain starts to fade. It may take some time, but hopefully you’ll start to see improvement.

I’ve had your Paris pink sports bra for about a month now. I wash it by hand alone and it bleeds so bad it doesn’t even dry properly. It leaves streaks on the bra. It also bleeds on my skin. Will it ever stop bleeding, I’ve lost count on how many times I’ve washed it. It’s the first time I run into a problem with your line of clothing. I also have Paris pink tank that bleeds, just not as much.

Comment by Helene — February 21, 2012 @ 11:18 am

Hi Miranda,
We don’t suggest dry cleaning any of our garments as the chemicals can break down the technical nature of the fabrics. A cold water wash with mild detergent and hanging to dry is the best way to prolong the life of your gear!

Hey Helene,
Oh dear, I’m sorry to hear you’re having difficulty with your Paris Pink bra. Any excess colour should release with pre-washing, but if you’re still experiencing difficulty, I would suggest taking it in to a local store or giving us a ring at the Guest Education Centre – 1.877.263.9300 option 2.

HELP! I am thinking of returning them and I hate to have to do that!

How do I get a food grease stain off my sparkle pink scuba hoodie?

Comment by MJ — March 3, 2012 @ 2:03 pm

Hi MJ,

Grease stains are tough to get out but I recommend spot treating the stain with liquid washing soap for about 15 minutes to help remove the stain. Follow with washing and air dry.

Hi,

I have bought a tank and its a size too big, do you know what i can do to make it shrink?

Comment by martyne-elyse verdon — March 10, 2012 @ 6:37 pm

Hi Martyne-Elyse,

All of our garments are pre-shrunk and have a stretchy fibre content like Spandex in them to hold their shape. All of our lululemon athletica retail stores offer complimentary hemming on various lululemon styles.
Product that can be hemmed includes:

- Pants, crops & shorts – without affecting the original design (includes reversible styles)
- Sleeves on basic long-sleeved shirts and jackets
- The bottoms of tanks/shirts, unless pockets or slits are affected

You can take the item you need hemmed to the lululemon retail store closest to you. Once dropped off, your product will be ready in approximately 5 days. Please note that we will hem old lululemon pants, but they must be clean and the hem not frayed.

Hi Sydney,
Oh dear! How are you caring for your gear? I suggest taking your items to your local store so that an Educator can take a closer look at the white balls you’re seeing. If you’re not close to a store, you can send us a few photos to gec@lululemon.com – option #2.

I purchased a pair of the Groove pants maybe about 4-5 months ago, and I love them so much that I wear them at least once a week. And since I almost always sweat in them, I wash them after each use. I am recently starting to notice the material pilling a little bit where my inner thighs rub together. I have been following directions and washing them with only lululemon clothes, on cold, and hang drying. Help! Anything else I can do?

Comment by Rachel Lear — April 5, 2012 @ 6:46 pm

Hey Rachel,
Thanks for posting your question. From what you are describing, it sounds like you are experience a little bit of abrasion. This kind of abrasion will naturally occur over time in high friction areas like the inner thighs and won’t effect the technical properties of the garment.

I just bought a new pair of wunder under pants and 2 headbands.

I have washed them all 1-3 times and they still have a very weird plastic smell to them.

I’ve never experienced this before with any other lulu clothing I have bought.

Are you making the products differently/different material? Different location???

Comment by mar — April 9, 2012 @ 10:57 am

Hey Mar,
Thanks for sharing this with us. I’ve heard some guest mention that items may have a slight plastic smell because of the packing, though they have always dissipated with time. If you have aired out the product and it’s not going away, please feel free to bring the items into your local store or give us a call at the Guest Education Centre, 1.877.263.9300

hello lulu

i have 2 pairs of stil pant….never had a problem with them, bought some for gifts as well and not a problem.
after the holidays i have purchased another stil pant for me in size 4…..
washed once alone same procedure as for other ones before, dried them flat….
my pants are like a size 8 now, at least that is what the girl in the store said are you sure they are not an 8….

when she was able to verify they are a 4 she had no other words to say, but i can;t do anything about that…..

how suddenly after one wash the pants get big, and all the other pants never did?

i feel so disappointed, especially now they stopped making the stil pant apparently…

this is not a cry for pity me, but what can be done with this pair of pants?

thanks

Hey there,
Thanks for reaching out about your Still Pants. I’m sorry to hear that the pants seemed to have lost their shape, it’s definitely not something that should happen. I’d love to follow up with you on this and the location you took the item to. Can you send us an email with some details to geconline@lululemon.com ?
Thanks again,
~Jenna

I recently bought the tame me tank in flash. After my 8 mile run Saturday I noticed that the fabric which was sweaty is now stained a darker color :( . I washed it on delicate and it’s still discolored – any suggestions?
Thank you!

Hi, I just stupidly washed my new purple Define Jacket with my white Ride On Henlely and white Cool Racerback. Both now have a pinkish hinge from the color transfer.

I’ve been soaking in sink with mild detergent. What else can I do to try to get these luon shirts back to bright white?

Thanks,
Sara

Comment by Sara — April 23, 2012 @ 7:48 pm

Hi Tara,

I’m sorry to hear about your tank. Did you get a chance to wash the tank before wearing it? This is something we’d like to take a closer look at so if you’re close to a store I suggest heading in with the tank. If you’re not near a store, send in a few photos to gec@lululemon.com and we’ll take a look for you.

Hey, i bought a lululemon sea green headband and I don’t know How to wash it. By hand, our do I wash with like colors
Thank you,
Sophia

Comment by Sophia — May 4, 2012 @ 7:23 pm

Hi Sophie,

You can either wash your headbands by hand or put them in with your other lululemon gear. I would let them air dry, rather than put them in the dryer. Hope this helps!

If I washed them once on accident (before my wife ‘scolded’ me for washing my LL shirt with my cottons), is it okay in the long run?

Sincerely,
Husband who obviously doesn’t wash clothes right :D

Comment by Chase Adams — May 11, 2012 @ 8:27 am

Hi Chase,

Great question! Did you notice a difference in your gear after washing it with cottons? Since they are technical pieces, they should be okay but if you do have any concerns or questions after sweating in your pieces, give us a ring at the GEC (1.877.263.9300)
