creative bra cup uses

After two and a half years here at lululemon athletica, my favourite feature found in our garments is removable cups - those pear-shaped inserts that are part of the built in bra of a tank top or just a sports bra itself. Hidden in between our nylon Lycra luon and powermesh, these cups are perfect for supporting the well-endowed, and also come in handy for adding some extra cleave for us ladies that want it.

For many of us, we keep the cups in. For others, we can’t wait to take them out! But then what do you do? In the spirit of fun and sustainability, what other creative ways can we use these cups? Here are a few suggestions from my colleagues and I to lighten up your midday coffee break:

1. Candy dishes.

2. Extra “oomph” in the gluteus maximus.

3. Earmuffs: for those of us that live where it’s really chilly!

4. Princess Leia costume at ComiCon.

5. Lend it to your male counterparts to protect those family jewels (be SURE to double up on those)

I’ll be using my cups to decorate my Sweep van for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer 2-day event in Long Beach next month. We’lll be cheering on walkers while checking the route for people who need transportation to care stations.

Funny! I always forget which way to orient the cups in my tops. Do the narrower ends point towards the middle of your chest or point towards your armpits? Thanks!

On the inside of the cup there’s a subtle imprint of a number, which should be the size of your cups/top. The imprinted number should be pointing IN, toward the middle of your chest. Hope that helps!

I know this must be a silly question… but how do you get the cups? Not all of the bras/tanks at my lulu have the cups in them… Do I just ask for some when I purchase something? Thanks so much!

Hi, Laura. I don’t see any numbers on my cups.

Also, I was at the store today trying on bras, and while every bra had the cup pockets, only two of the eight or so that I tried on actually contained the cups. Are all the designs supposed to come with them? Maybe people are taking them?

Hey Laura,
Thanks for your question. Our designers have created our tanks with built-in bras to have the option to insert cups. Not all of our tanks will automatically come with cups though. The cups are interchangeable, so you can use cups from another tank. If you don’t have any, you can ask your local store if they have some to give you, or give us a call at the Guest Education Centre on 1.877.263.9300 option #2.
The cup size can be very faint, it will be on the inside of the cup, in the centre. It will correspond to your tank size. Feel free to call us if you need help.

Do the narrower ends of the cups point toward the center of your chest or toward your armpits? I know that there are supposed to be numbers on my cups, but I definately cannot find them and need another way to figure out how to re-insert the cups.

Hey Jodi,
Yes, the narrower end will be in the centre. If you think of it like an egg, the top of the egg will be in the centre and the round bottom of the egg will be towards your arms.

You’ll also note that when you have it on it’s side like that, that the cup has a curve more on one side than the other. You want the fullest part of the curve to be on the bottom.

I have a question, I was trying to figure out the correct way to insert the bra cups, and came upon this post (and I’m resurrecting only because it is the only place on the internet I can find any guidance on this topic). The comments confused me greatly because when I find the numbers, it is not on the narrow end of the cup inserts but the wider end. The wider end in the middle (where the numbers are) is how my SA inserted them in the first place, so I thought that was correct, but the information in these comments is either conflicting or the bra cup inserts I got are different? The comments say put the numbered ends in the middle, and then it says the narrow end should be in the middle.. this is contradictory. Please let me know any other thoughts!

Which bra do you have? The cups that are shown above should have the number on the narrow part of the cup. I would suggest trying them either way and seeing which way works best for you.

How do you get the cups to stay put? When putting my tanks on, the cups get goofed up and slide out of place, so I end up taking them out. Any tricks to keep in place permanently?

Hi Meredith,
Are you finding that the bra cups are moving around once inside the pocket of the tank? There are two specific slits in each tank that can hold removable cups for you to place the bra cups inside them. I find that once inside, I’ll need to smooth out the cups but once on, they shouldn’t move throughout your work out. Every time I wash a lulu bra or tank, the cups (which I love) fold in half and often begin to poke out of the garment. I often have to spend ten minutes per top finagling the cups back into place. I’ve thought of sewing them into place so I don’t have to do this every time I wash them… any suggestions?
