road to the half marathon: training week 8

With 4 weeks to go until race day, it’s all downhill from here, literally! This week I took a recommendation from one of our ambassadors to incorporate hills into my short runs and see how my long run felt from there. Let’s be honest, running uphill is probably my least favourite activity on the planet. It burns and it feels like I am moving at a glacial pace. Achy arthritic toes and all, I mapped out “hilly” runs on the Daily Mile, and loaded a fresh playlist to conquer these “helpful” peaks throughout my week and did just that.

road to the half marathon: training week 7

This week we’re talking summertime fun runs. If you have been following my training journey, by now you know I view my running and training as just another to-do on my list of daily chores. That being said, I’ve adapted a sort of chore check off reward system that actually has me enjoying my runs. [...]

road to the half marathon: week 6

Time to run the holiday weekend off! At least that’s what my alarm said this morning at 6am. My long run was delayed to this morning this week, as the 4th of July festivities around me begged to differ with my training schedule. Nonetheless, I woke up and ran the 7 miles I owed this morning, and might have sweat out a bit of the holiday cocktails we enjoyed at the river this weekend.

road to the half marathon: training week 5

After feeling a bit defeated by my efforts last week, I shook myself off and hit the ground running again. I started the week off on the day of summer solstice with a delectable 4 mile sunset run in Balboa Park. This week was honestly a bit of breakthrough for me and I realized what was happening to derail my training. Number one I was not planning the day ahead of me and thus not finding (making) the time to run. Secondly, I had set a pace and a goal time for myself that was honestly unreasonable. All in all I needed to find the balance in my training and my pacing.

road to the half marathon: training week 4

This week in training, I found a bit of a breakthrough. No not because I killed it on all of my runs, or because I ate all the right things to fuel my training, but quite the opposite. I ran once this week. One time. So to say I was proud of my training, I’d be lying. However, this week taught me one amazing lesson regardless of circumstance and excuses, I am the sole catalyst of my successes and failures.

road to the half marathon: training week 3

Let’s talk about food. All of these miles have made me hungry and I am so thankful for all the recipes you guys have left me. I am always on the look out for delicious protein packed, natural, vegetarian options so keep shouting them my way. Every day I know if I have eaten enough [...]

up close with the wear with all jacket

Our design team has heard the desire for a cozy, lightweight summer jacket from our guests online loud and clear. With summer on deck, morning yoga and beach bonfires in mind, we’re spoiling you with the coziness of our own blend of cotton French Terry in the Wear With All jacket.

road to the half marathon: week two

Make it work. That has been the theme of my training week. Having a full time job, a husband, and somewhat of a social life makes training quite the task for me. This week I found a few excuses to delay my runs, but got them all in and within my time frame. I also took an impromptu trip to Oklahoma for the Women’s Softball College World Series, where my Bruins are playing for the national title.

dads don’t stink

If your dad works out and sweats, and you have yet to introduce him to our amazing Silverescent™ and moisture wicking fabrics, he’s in for a real sweet smelling treat this Father’s Day. Almost two years ago, I introduced my dad, Terry, to yoga. My dad’s a cotton t-shirt and cargo shorts kind of man, [...]

road to half marathon: week one

I have an extreme love hate relationship with running. I hate the process of running, even if it’s a mile or less. But by the end, my body absorbs an aura of happiness and accomplishment that I haven’t been able to duplicate with other workouts. Coming up on my third half marathon, I have decided to blog my journey to show that one, ANYONE can run a half marathon, and two I am hoping some of you will hold me accountable to my goal with tips of your own.
