Wonderful advice. I'm always thinking ahead and not in the moment, simply enduring, desperate for the results. I want to get it over with and get in enormous distances to add to my workout journal so I can feel proud, accomplished, like I really covered some ground, er, water. But maybe I need to reconsider. I'm back in the pool tomorrow, and I'm thinking I'll definitely put these tips to use. Any more advice? Any good supps or diet advice to prevent leg cramps, my nemesis?

What a great introductory swimming post! I am a true novice swimmer but have been swimming more recently due to a running injury. I started swimming for time and not really focusing on distance/yardage. A similar method of training is applied to beginner runners as they build their endurance. Now that I am comfortable swimming for 30 min or so, I am focusing more on yardage and would love to incorporate this interval workout. Thanks!
