I have always loved being outside – riding my bike around the neighborhood, playing on sports teams, building forts in the back yard.
During college I began to run more often. I entered my first race when I was in graduate school and that is when I probably caught the bug . Once I moved to Charleston, I fell into running with a great group of people. They encouraged me to start doing track workouts on Tuesday nights. I was running 21 minute 5ks before I started track and never thought I would get under 20 minutes. After I started track,, my times started to drop. It was so fun to get faster! I’m not a very competitive person – except with myself. Running is perfect for me. There is always the wonder if I can get a little faster, if I can go a little longer. I also love that running allows me to spend time outside. All I need are my shoes and I’m out the door – rain, sun, wind, morning, night – it doesn’t matter. I can just go. And I love it.
