James has been involved with physical training professionally since 2001, when he received the award, Student of Merit, on his Combat Fitness Leaders Course. The following year in 2002 James completed the grueling Tri-Service Physical Training Instructor (PTI) course, and was initiated as a full time PTI with a posting to the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA), Canberra, arguably the most demanding posting for a PTI in the Defence Force.
During his time as a Defence Force PTI, spanning from October 2002 until June 2007, James literally trained thousands of soldiers, sailors and airmen in a wide range of physical training sessions. James also conducted regular adventure training including the ADFA high wire confidence course, high speed water insertions and abseiling.
For a total of 12 months James was a member of the injury rehabilitation section at ADFA. During his involvement with rehabilitation, the number of ADFA Cadets on rehabilitation where halved, and James contributed greatly to this success. In 2007 James was appointed as the head rehabilitation consultant for the Defence Force School of Signals in Melbourne.
James discharged in June 2007 and together with Dan Ford constructed the Battle Camp training program. James is a passionate fitness professional and truley enjoys improving the quality of peoples lives.
