Groove Yoga, Athletic Club of Bend, Namaspa, Aspire Fitness

For Kristin, sports have always been a way to step away from the mind and into something deeper. It was on the field or on the trails that she found self-esteem, relief from anxiety, and the ability to be fully present. Although sports were her passion, her propensity to push too hard too fast, eventually lead her to injury. At twenty-two, she found herself ingesting far too much ibuprofen, unable to run or often walk. It was then that she found yoga. She hobbled her way to her mat each day; initially unable to do much of anything, so it appeared. But slowly, her body healed and poses that at first seemed inaccessible began to unfold without effort.

Fifteen years into her yoga journey, Kristin is convinced that yoga is an absolutely essential part of health and well-being. She is continually amazed by the growth and awareness that comes with regular practice. She guides her students through her own experience in listening to the body. She believes that students must practice through a combination of guidance and feel. She encourages them to allow the body to come back to its natural state, not through pushing but through a steady committed practice. Fun is a must in Kristin’s classes; so don’t be surprised if your sun salutations are accompanied by Biggie Smalls, The Black Eyed Peas and even the occasional ACDC.

Kristin is forever grateful for the teachers who have illuminated her path: Baron Baptiste, Rolf Gates, Shiva Rea, Seane Corn, Bryan Kest, Vinnie Marino, Matthew Reyes, Dharma Mittra, and her sister and inspiration Liza DiGaetano. She lives in Bend with her husband and two children and is a teacher of Groove Yoga (studio opening in May), which she currently offers at the Athletic Club of Bend and Aspire Fitness. She also teaches Baptiste style yoga at Namaspa.
