hearts of gold
If you don’t know us, we’re at the corner of Rush and Walton smack in the middle of Chicago’s Gold Coast district. We’re the highest volume store in Chicago and our guests are a mix of locals and tourists. On any given day, there’s a cool mix of people in the store and great energy. Our local community is big and active. Come to one of our events and you’ll see what we mean.
One of our biggest events last year was Run Slow Celebrate. All lululemon stores received money to spend on a charity of their choice. We chose Imerman Angels. They pair up people the same age with the same kind of cancer so they have someone to talk to about what they’re going through. It gives them a kind of support they wouldn’t have otherwise. The founder, Johnny Imerman, is a great friend ours. He’s practically the face of our store, he’s around so much. He usually greets us with hugs and a huge smile. He’s just a beautiful person, and he’s dedicated his entire life to this charity, so working with Imerman Angels was a no-brainer.
We organized a run down by Navy Pier followed by a yoga practice at the River East Art Center. Johnny wears an Imerman Angels t-shirt everywhere he goes, so we promoted the event by putting all our mannequins in Imerman Angels shirts. We all wore them as well. We had over 100 yogis turn up and every one of them donated. We raised over $4000.
In addition to big, splashy events, we have our anything-but-regular run club. Chicago is a big running city and our club is one of lululemon’s strongest (it helps that we have a beautiful lakefront just a couple of blocks from the store). We do club runs from the store on Tuesday evenings, a long group run on Saturday and a track practice Wednesday mornings. On hot summer nights we’re on the beach stretching our legs after long runs. None of this would happen if not for Gina, a key leader here at the store, and Dave Coligado, who’s one of our ambassadors. Dave lost over 200 pounds running and his first run ever was a marathon. Now he does ultra marathons. How could you not be inspired by that? Both Dave and Gina have so much passion for running it’s contagious. We’ve had more people in the club cross a finish line and set personal records last summer than ever before.
The best part, though, is the connections we’ve made. That’s really what it’s all about for us. Whether you come for a run or get sweaty at one of our events, you feel like you’re part of something bigger. You’re going to meet local superstars and hear amazing stories. You’re going to meet people like you who want to live big awesome lives. You’re going to be inspired. We are, every day.
